National age group Championships

After achieving a stunning number of national qualifying times, Megan Bowen made the journey to Sheffield for the British Gas National age group championships. As this was her first time at the nationals it was even more impressive that she took the bronze medal in the 1500m which was her very first event at the pool. Despite concerns over fitness after some illness recently, Megan swam with such determination and competitiveness that she improved her personal best time by a massive 25 seconds. Although she finished in third position with a time of 18.03.23, she only missed out on the gold and silver medals by less than a second. We await the rest of the championships with interest and excitement.

Ben Gittens confidently won three events in his age group, the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m breaststroke. Taylor Wynn swam strongly to touch in first place in the 200m backstroke also taking the silver medal in the 200m butterfly. Abigail Bartlett stormed to the finish in both the 200m and 400m freestyle to take silver medals in both, she also gained the bronze medal in the 200IM.

Continuing this success Eleanor McCoy showed her skill at freestyle to take second place in the 400m and bronze in the 200m. Charlotte Craigie gained a well-deserved silver medal in the 200m butterfly and James Senior swam a well paced race to finish in second position in the 200m breaststroke. Jack Northmore gave some impressively competitive performances taking bronze in the 100m butterfly and 200m IM. One of the youngest members of the Dinnaton team, Lauren Hammond showed that she is following the family tradition of swimming success, she competed in the 200m backstroke where she took a bronze medal.

Sally Carter fought to the finish in four events, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m butterfly just missing out on gold to take silver in all four. Callum Clay achieved some fantastic personal best times to gain two silvers in the 50m and 100m back as well as bronzes in the 50m and 100m butterfly. Harriet Tuck swam the 200m backstroke as a warm up for the breakwater race and took the bronze medal. Ben Douglass raced a superb 400m freestyle event, finishing on the 5 minute mark and gaining a bronze medal for this performance.              Roisin Vosper gained a personal best time in the 400m freestyle and gave some committed performances in the breaststroke events. David and Faye Hammond competed in some very strong age group categories and achieved much improved times. Maisie and Tait Marles showed developing technique just missing out on the medals. Travis Bramley, Ryan Moreno-Chamorro, Rebecca Johns and Quinn Jones all gave some competitive performances which they can build on for next season. The evening of the breakwater race on Plymouth Hoe saw perfect conditions for the 2 mile race. A massive crowd from Dinnaton collected on Leander steps to see the swimmers come in. In the distance through binoculars a big splash could be seen coming nearer the shore. As it came closer and closer Dinnaton swimmers recognised it as the signature "Harriet" kick. Harriet swam with incredible endurance even sprinting the finish! She finished in a time of 42 minutes against a strong tide and with a big smile. James Flanagan came in a close third which was again a fantastic achievement after only short preparation for the race. Many of the club stayed to celebrate and see Harriet recieve her trophy, she has proved herself to be an open water swimmer to watch!
